'When Sam''s new dog learns to dig holes, he can''t stop. He digs up gardens, road and buildings, and finally digs himself into a hole he can''t get out of. The adventures of THE DIGGING-EST DOG are of certain appeal to the Beginner age-group. ''I can read it all by myself'' is the Beginner Books motto, and behind it is an understanding of how important it is for children to take pride and pleasure in their early reading. Beginner Books have been designed to appeal directly to children through the use of humour, rhyme and bright pictures that can be ''read'' even by the non-reading child. Some Beginner Books are simple stories, others are hilarious nonsense: both types have been designed to give children confidence and make them want to go on reading.'
'When box office champ Ben Stiller''s comedic performances aren''t a variation on a soft-spoken, put-upon everyman with an eventual fuse, he''s usually playing a full-blown absurdist monster with an apoplectic Napoleon complex. These bizarre creations usually adorn films in which the funnyman provides the supporting work (DODGEBALL, HEAVYWEIGHTS), but, whenever he''s directing, he''s free to build an entire filmic universe around his asinine, ludicrously funny, culture-skewering characters and premises. His ZOOLANDER (2001) bit at the entertainment industry with silly abandon, but Stiller has firmly set TROPIC THUNDER within the realm of sophisticated Hollywood satire. In it, a desperate director named Damien Cockburn (Steve Coogan) trying to make a Vietnam war movie drops his pampered actors into the heart of the jungle. Cockburn''s stars include Stiller as an action hero who''s starting to make bad career choices, Jack Black as an insecure low-brow comedy star going through heroin withdrawals, and Robert Downey Jr. as an Australian Oscar winner so lost in his ''craft'' he underwent a procedure to become black for his role. In the jungle, they remain under the delusion that they are still being filmed even after they encounter a dangerous gang of drug lords. The film''s basic premise has popped up several times since Hollywood''s 1970s golden age in films such as THREE AMIGOS! and GALAXY QUEST. Where those films simply blanketed a classic Overconfident Bumbling Idiot comedy showcase with a pop culture lexicon, however, TROPIC THUNDER could have only been made, as on-the-nose at is, by people who have been working in the Hollywood system for years, making cutting observations along the way. Simply put, this raucous satire knows big-budget filmmaking, the delusional narcissism of actors, and even the good points of those actors--perhaps why they''re celebrated--like the back of its hand. 'Boat that rocked is an ensemble comedy, where the romance is between the young people of the 60''s, and pop music. It''s about a band of DJs that captivate Britain, playing the music that defines a generation and standing up to a government that, incomprehensibly, prefers jazz.In 1966 - British pop music''s finest era - the BBC played just 2 hours of rock and roll every week. But pirate radio played rock and pop from the high seas 24 hours a day. And 25 million people - over half the population of Britain - listened to the pirates every single day.Recently expelled from school, Carl (Tom Sturridge) has been sent by his mother to find some direction in life by visiting his godfather Quentin. However, Quentin is the boss of Radio Rock, a pirate radio station in the middle of the North Sea, populated by an eclectic crew of rock ''n'' roll DJs.They are led by The Count (Philip Seymour Hoffman) - big, brash, American, god of the airwaves, and totally in love with the music. He''s faithfully backed up by his co-broadcasters Dave (Nick Frost) - ironic, intelligent and cruelly funny Simon (Chris O''Dowd) - super-nice and searching for true love Midnight Mark (Tom Wisdom) - enigmatic, handsome and man of few words Wee Small Hours Bob - the late night DJ, whose hobbies are folk music and drugs Thick Kevin (Tom Brooke) - possessor of the smallest intelligence known to mankind On-The-Hour John (Will Adamsdale) - the newsreader and Angus ''The Nut'' Nutsford (Rhys Darby) - possibly the most annoying man in Britain.Life on the North Sea is eventful. Simon finds the woman of his dreams and is married on the boat... only to be left by his bride the next day. Gavin (Rhys Ifans) returns from his drug tour of America to his rightful position as greatest DJ in Britain and, in doing so, clashes with the Count. And Carl discovers the opposite sex and who his real father is.Meanwhile, pirate stations have come to the attention of government minister Dormandy (Kenneth Branagh) who is out for the blood of these lawbreakers. In an era when the stuffy corridors of power stifle anything approaching youthful exuberance, Dormandy seizes the chance to score a political goal and The Marine Broadcasting Offences Act is passed in an effort to outlaw the pirates and remove their ghastly influence from the land once and for all. What results is a literal storm on the high seas. With Radio Rock in peril, it''s devoted fans rally together and stage an epic Dunkirk-style hundred boat rescue to save their DJ heroes. Some things may come to an end, but rock ''n'' roll never dies.'
'Based on author Bryan Burrough''s ambitious tome ''Public Enemies: America''s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43'', director Michael Mann (Heat, Last of the Mohicans) has crafted a sprawling historical crime drama that follows the efforts of top FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale Batman Begins, American Psycho) in capturing notorious bank robber John Dillinger. A folk hero to the American public thanks to his penchant for robbing the banks that many people believed responsible for the Great Depression, charming bandit Dillinger (Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean) was virtually unstoppable at the height of his criminal career no jail could hold him, and his exploits endeared him to the common people while making headlines across the country. J. Edgar Hoover''s (Billy Crudup Watchmen, Almost Famous) FBI was just coming into formation, and what better way for the ambitious lawman to transform his fledgling Bureau of Investigation into a national police force than to capture the gang that always gets away? Determined to bust Dillinger and his crew, which also included sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham Doghouse, This is England) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi The Gift, Saving Private Ryan), Hoover christened Dillinger the country''s very first Public Enemy Number One, and unleashed Purvis to take them down by whatever means necessary. But Purvis underestimated Dillinger''s ingenuity as a master criminal, and after embarking on a frantic series of chases and shoot-outs, the dashing agent humbly surmised that he was in over his head. Outwitted and outgunned, Purvis knew that his only hope for busting Dillinger''s gang was to baptize a crew of Western ex-lawmen as official agents, and orchestrate a series of betrayals so cunning that even America''s criminal mastermind wouldn''t know what hit him. Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, and Stephen Dorff co-star.'
'Screenwriter Neil Biswas'' (BRADFORD RIOTS) adaptation of Martina Cole''s novel THE TAKE, spans 10 years of British socio-political change. The backdrop of the Thatcher era and its transition into the birth of New Labour, is particularly relevant to the drama''s theme of idealised new beginnings stemming from and resulting in a sense of disillusion.Freddie Jackson (Tom Hardy, BRONSON, ROCKNROLLA) leaves prison in 1984, after serving 4 years for bank robbery. His loyal, if unstable, wife Jackie (Kierston Wareing, RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER) has waited for him on the outside, under the misguided impression that he wants to go straight. Freddie, however, is raring to get back into the game, keen on becoming king of the East End underworld. Cousin Jimmy (Shaun Evans, BOY A) is hot on his heels and, with time, rises the ranks of the quickly expanding crime empire -- eventually eclipsing Freddie himself. He also has something else Freddie covets, Jackie''s younger sister Maggie (Charlotte Riley, WUTHERING HEIGHTS), and together they have a loving relationship the Jacksons can only dream of. Bitterness and jealously threaten to tear the family apart, as loyalties are brought into question, trusts are betrayed, and violence ensues. So when a freak accident traps the mismatched strangers in each others bodies the results aren''t pretty, but they are hilarious.BOY MEETS GIRL is a sharp, witty comedy-drama from the pen of new writing talent David Allison. But besides learning to walk in high heels or being forced to ''slum it'' with the working classes, the pair long to get back to their own bodies and ultimately, their old lives... getting someone to believe them, however, is only hurdle number one!'

'Writer/director Joshua Michael Stern (NEVERWAS) tackles American politics in his second feature film. Bud Johnson (Kevin Costner) is just your below-average Joe. He works in an egg factory, likes to knock back a few too many beers, and is a single parent to 12-year old Molly (Madeline Carroll), a bright spitfire who does her best to keep her dad on the straight and narrow. Patriotic Molly insists that apathetic Bud do his civic duty and vote in the upcoming presidential election, a tight race between Republican incumbent Andrew Boone (Kelsey Grammer) and Democratic candidate Donald Greenleaf (Dennis Hopper). Soon the media and both candidates descend upon Bud''s hometown of Texico, New Mexico, when it''s determined that his vote wasn''t counted and will decide the outcome of the entire presidential election. Now that Bud is a ''somebody''--there''s even a ''Bud Cam'' capturing his every move--will he be swayed by visits to Air Force One and the ''Bud Ball'' held in his honour, or will he be the voice of the American people and vote for the better candidate? The lengths the candidates go to in order to win Bud''s vote are high points of the film, as they find themselves supporting initiatives that are completely opposed to their platforms at the urging of their campaign managers, played by Stanley Tucci and Nathan Lane. Grammer is well cast as Boone, and it''s a hoot to see counterculture icon Hopper in this light. Costner makes Bud likable despite the loser stereotype he personifies. But this film belongs to Carroll, a lovely young actress who can steal a scene with one look. If nothing else, SWING VOTE is a reminder that even though politics may be a game, every single vote really does count.'

Based on the hugely popular Japanese comic, GeGeGe no Kitaro , Kitaro is a live-action adaptation of the manga series created in 1959 by manga artist Shigeru Mizuki. It is best known for its popularization of the folklore creatures known as y kai, a class of spirit-monster to which all of the main characters belong. It has been adapted for the screen several times, as anime, live-action, and video games. A new anime series has been made every decade since 1968. Kitaro (Eiji Wentz) is a yokai whose parents both died before he was born. Actually, to be more accurate he crawled out of his mother s dead-and-buried corpse and emerged from her grave, but obviously the movie doesn t get too in-depth in that sort of explanation. 'Five films from the hugely popular sci-fi franchise. In ''The Fly'' (1958), a scientist (David Hedison) is obsessed with developing a molecular matter transmitter. When he attempts to test the invention himself, he is unwittingly joined by a companion - a fly that has sneaked into the transportation pod with him. The consequences of the experiment soon become clear, as the scientist begins to take on fly-like characteristics. ''Return of the Fly'' (1959) sees the original scientist''s son reconstructing the matter transporter which turned his father into an insect, with the young man''s experiments leading him down the same insectoid path. In ''Curse of the Fly'' (1965) the plot again revolves around the Delambre family, although this time it is the scientist''s grandson, Henri Delambre (Brian Donlevy), who becomes obsessed with transporter experiments to the dismay of his two sons, who want to live normal lives and forget about their grandfather''s invention. Henri''s oldest son, Martin (George Baker), marries a young woman who just escaped from a mental hospital. After Martin''s new wife discovers a closet filled with deranged humans left over from failed teleportation experiments, the police are called and Henri attempts to flee using the infamous transporter. ''The Fly'' (1986) is the Oscar-winning remake of the 1958 horror classic. Scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), experimenting with transmitting matter uses himself as a guinea-pig, unaware that a fly has got into the machinery. As he embarks on a relationship with Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis), the journalist covering his project, his body slowly begins to take on fly-like characteristics. ''The Fly 2'' (1989) is the sequel to the 1986 movie. Dr Seth Brundle is no more, but he has left behind a gruesome legacy: the teleportation device which transformed him into a human fly, and a son, Martin (Matthew Moore/Harley Cross).
