'Boat that rocked is an ensemble comedy, where the romance is between the young people of the 60''s, and pop music. It''s about a band of DJs that captivate Britain, playing the music that defines a generation and standing up to a government that, incomprehensibly, prefers jazz.In 1966 - British pop music''s finest era - the BBC played just 2 hours of rock and roll every week. But pirate radio played rock and pop from the high seas 24 hours a day. And 25 million people - over half the population of Britain - listened to the pirates every single day.Recently expelled from school, Carl (Tom Sturridge) has been sent by his mother to find some direction in life by visiting his godfather Quentin. However, Quentin is the boss of Radio Rock, a pirate radio station in the middle of the North Sea, populated by an eclectic crew of rock ''n'' roll DJs.They are led by The Count (Philip Seymour Hoffman) - big, brash, American, god of the airwaves, and totally in love with the music. He''s faithfully backed up by his co-broadcasters Dave (Nick Frost) - ironic, intelligent and cruelly funny Simon (Chris O''Dowd) - super-nice and searching for true love Midnight Mark (Tom Wisdom) - enigmatic, handsome and man of few words Wee Small Hours Bob - the late night DJ, whose hobbies are folk music and drugs Thick Kevin (Tom Brooke) - possessor of the smallest intelligence known to mankind On-The-Hour John (Will Adamsdale) - the newsreader and Angus ''The Nut'' Nutsford (Rhys Darby) - possibly the most annoying man in Britain.Life on the North Sea is eventful. Simon finds the woman of his dreams and is married on the boat... only to be left by his bride the next day. Gavin (Rhys Ifans) returns from his drug tour of America to his rightful position as greatest DJ in Britain and, in doing so, clashes with the Count. And Carl discovers the opposite sex and who his real father is.Meanwhile, pirate stations have come to the attention of government minister Dormandy (Kenneth Branagh) who is out for the blood of these lawbreakers. In an era when the stuffy corridors of power stifle anything approaching youthful exuberance, Dormandy seizes the chance to score a political goal and The Marine Broadcasting Offences Act is passed in an effort to outlaw the pirates and remove their ghastly influence from the land once and for all. What results is a literal storm on the high seas. With Radio Rock in peril, it''s devoted fans rally together and stage an epic Dunkirk-style hundred boat rescue to save their DJ heroes. Some things may come to an end, but rock ''n'' roll never dies.'

'The film explores how the orderly, reassuringly clear worlds Enid Blyton created within her stories contrasted with the complexity of her own personal life. It sheds light on the ambitious and driven - but as yet unpublished - young woman, from the development of her rich imagination against the adversity of an imperfect childhood, two World Wars, and a first marriage ending in divorce - to household name. One of the most recognised storytellers of all time, Enid Blyton''s charming characters and classic tales have enchanted countless generations of children for almost 80 years. Having sold over 500 million books in 40 countries, this film follows the woman behind the enduring and compelling stories such as the beloved Famous Five, Secret Seven, Malory Towers and Noddy series.'
'This set brings together three television plays from multi-award-winning comedienne and writer Victoria Wood. Originally transmitted between 1979 and 1981, the plays provided an early showcase for the bittersweet, distinctly Northern humour and mastery of dourly comic, sometimes poignant dialogue that has made her one of Britain''s best-loved and most consistently successful performers. Included is the highly acclaimed Talent, commissioned in 1978 by the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and the play which first brought Victoria Wood to the attention of Granada Television the productions also reunited Wood and long-time friend Julie Walters, and marked the beginning of their phenomenally successful television partnership. Wood and Walters stalwart Duncan Preston also appears in all three plays, with turns from Tracey Ullman, George Costigan and stand-up veteran and Bullseye host Jim Bowen. 'Danny Reed (Martin Freeman) is directionless and dissatisfied with his lot in life. Working at a DIY superstore, he vents his frustrations on the customers, when not pining for his co-worker Fiona (Angela Griffin) or foisting his encyclopedic knowledge of useless information onto loyal friend Pete (Marshall Lancaster). He really is a world away from the successful, vivacious Veronica (Rachael Stirling), whose job as a glamorous fashion journalist provides her with a well-stocked bank account and an even better stocked social calendar. Worshipped by her devoted boyfriend Jay (Paterson Joseph), Veronica seems to have it all. So when a freak accident traps the mismatched strangers in each others bodies the results aren''t pretty, but they are hilarious.BOY MEETS GIRL is a sharp, witty comedy-drama from the pen of new writing talent David Allison. The four-part series invests the fantastical gender-swap scenario with a surprising creditability thanks, in large part, to the central performances of Freeman and Stirling. As Danny and Veronica struggle with their new identities they begin to discover new truths about themselves. But besides learning to walk in high heels or being forced to ''slum it'' with the working classes, the pair long to get back to their own bodies and ultimately, their old lives... getting someone to believe them, however, is only hurdle number one!'
'A hipper, trendier, more working class version of Blue Peter, Magpie was transmitted live twice a week by Thames Television from 1968 to 1980. With its knack of tapping into the latest trends, the emphasis was firmly on fashion, music and fun and the series was presented across its 12-year run by Susan Stranks, Tony Bastable, Pete Brady, Douglas Rae, Mick Robertson, Jenny Hanley and Tommy Boyd. And not forgetting their rather portly mascot - Murgatroyd the magpie!Out of approximately 1000 episodes made, less than a hundred survive. Jimmy Carr marks 10 successful years in comedy with the release of his most controversial DVD to date, Telling Jokes. Featuring over 90 minutes of material thats just too rude for television, the new DVD sees Jimmy Carr at his best unleashing his delightfully crafted one-liners upon the nation and putting down brave hecklers.Slick, sick and definitely not for the easily offended, Jimmy offers a masterclass in comedy as he takes his dry and sardonic wit to a whole new level. And it seems that no-one and nothing is safe from Jimmys cutting remarks as he delves into a diverse range of subjects including religion, sex, bullying and somewhat ironically political correctness ... As Jimmy explains: Its not for the faint hearted (the faint hearted should also avoid salt).

'Grease was a phenomenal hit with its target teenage audience when it was released in 1977. The songs dominated the pop charts and brought heady success for its lead actors, John Travolta (Danny) and Olivia Newton-John (Sandy) despite the fact that--as with their energetic co-stars--their own teenage years were some way behind them. As they seize the chance to relive their schooldays, their verve and enthusiasm explodes from the screen. The real class, though, comes from Stockard Channing as feisty Rizzo and, in a couple of cameos, wisecracking silver screen actresses from yesteryear Eve Arden and Joan Blondel.Based on the 1972 stage show and adding several new numbers, Grease is at heart a rites-of-passage movie with plenty of feel-good moments and a euphoric buzz. You''re the One That I Want , Hopelessly Devoted to You and Summer Nights became the soundtrack for a generation of high-school students on the cusp of adulthood. Today, it looks like a pastiche of those 1950s Connie Francis rock & roll beach films. But the steady stream of double entendres and knowing body language render it more accessible to the less innocent late 1970s. It''s overwhelming nostalgia for anyone in the vicinity of 40.The 25th anniversary special edition of Grease rolls back the years: the 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation transports you instantly back to fifth-form heaven in the local fleapit. The Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound ensures that the songs--ever the staple of MOR radio--complete the nostalgia trip with real zip. The main extra is a short series of fond reminiscences from the actors and director Randal Kleiser, actually filmed for the 20th anniversary. --Piers Ford'
'A darkly comic drama series telling the story of six disabled characters sent to a remote British island for a fictional reality TV show. Six disabled people. 90 days. One barren island. Will they survive? The reality TV show is fictitious, but Cast Offs, a comedy drama about the making of a disabled take on Survivor, is about to become one of the most talked about programmes of the year. Disability is one of television''s last taboos and Cast Offs tackles it head on, with a script stuffed with sex and politically incorrect jokes by writers from Skins, Shameless and The Thick of It. Each of the six episodes is from the viewpoint of a different character in the fictional show: a blind man, a deaf woman, a paraplegic man, a woman with dwarfism, a thalidomide-affected man and a woman with cherubism.'
Acclaimed filmmaker Michael Haneke s disturbing film portrays the alienation of a young boy, whose experience of the world is refracted through the lens of his video camera and his television screen. Arno Frisch, later to play one of the psychopathic young men in Funny Games, plays the 14 year-old Benny, who brings a girl home to his parents empty apartment where he commits a shocking act of casual violence. As with his later Funny Games , Haneke poses provocative and challenging questions about voyeurism and the relationship between violence real and imagined. 'Over thirty years ago, French documentary maker Nicolas Philibert worked as an assistant to film director Ren Allio on a movie version of an influential book compiled by Michel Foucault: I, Pierre Rivire was a reconstruction of three apparently senseless murders in 1835 by a seemingly half-witted, young Norman peasant. The state officials and middle-class figures were played by actors (one of them Philibert''s father) and the peasants by local, working-class nonprofessionals. Philibert returned to the old locations to reminisce with the now middle-aged or elderly actors about the way it affected their lives. Most of the them have nothing but happy memories, but slowly it appears that some of the participants had their own issues with the law, power and mental health.'

'From the early stages of his career across five decades to his final film, Fritz Lang built a trilogy of paranoiac thrillers focused on an entity who began as a criminal mastermind, and progressed into something more amorphous: fear itself, embodied only by a name Dr. Mabuse. For the first time on home video, all three of Fritz Lang''s Mabuse films have been collected for one package, in their complete and restored forms. 1: Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler. [Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler.] (1922) Lang''s two-part, nearly 5-hour silent epic detailing the rise and fall of Dr. Mabuse in Weimar-era Berlin. 2: Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse [The Testament of Dr. Mabuse] (1933) a tour-de-force thriller rife with supernatural elements, all converging around an attempt by the now-institutionalised Mabuse (or someone acting under his name... and possibly his will) to organise an ''Empire of Crime''. 3: Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse [The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Mabuse] (1960) Fritz Lang''s final film, in which hypnosis, clairvoyance, surveillance, and machine-guns come together for a whiplash climax that answers the question: Who''s channelling Mabuse''s methods in the Cold War era? The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present Fritz Lang''s complete Mabuse trilogy a cornerstone in the work of one of cinema''s all-time greatest directors.'

'With its witty dialogue, sophisticated character development, and classic slapstick situations, Frasier is perhaps best described as the thinking man''s Friends. Taking centre stage is pompous radio psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), whose phone-in show serves as much an outlet for his neuroses, as it does a public service for the people of Seattle. Clever intersecting storylines feature a brilliant ensemble cast, including his prim and proper brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce), their gruff retired-cop father Martin (John Mahoney), live-in home care worker Daphne (Jane Leeves), brassy radio producer Roz (Teri Gilpin), and a charismatic Jack Russell terrier named Eddie, with whom Frasier has regular staring contests but never wins. This collection includes the show''s pilot episode through to its eleventh series finale, and every episode in between.'
'For nearly four decades Benny Hill reigned supreme as the king of bawdy humour on British television. Of his body of work, it is the shows that he did for Thames television in the 1970''s for which he is best remembered, with their combination of farce, risque jokes and beautiful ladies. It is these shows that made him a global superstar - topping the ratings in the US also. With his ''three stooges'': Henry McGee, Bob Todd and Jack Wright, Benny Hill produced a handful of ''specials'' every year - all of which were critically acclaimed ratings toppers. This fantastic compendium brings together each of the annuals through out the ''70''s and is a must for any hardened fan of the great man.'

Rocky won the 1976 Academy Award for Best picture and two nominations for Stallone for leading actor and writer. This is the story of a loser, a two bit boxer from Philadelphia, who gets a second chance in life by being offered an impossible shot at the heavyweight title. Stallone''s performance is as powerful as his character''s punches in the ring. This is one of the most exciting action movies you will ever see. There, the fighter must resolve the deep-rooted resentment held by his son, a bitterness that grows when Rocky trains Tommy Gunn (Tommy Morrison), a young boxer who soon rises to national prominence. When Tommy turns against his mentor and publicly taunts him, Rocky knows he mus'
